USATF CEO Doug Logan wrote another blog post, this time on Christmas Eve, this time discussing his thoughts and doing a personal review of the job he has done the first five months or so as CEO. Logan has high expectations for himself and for USATF, and his critique of himself seemed honest. Through what I've read and people I've talked to, many feel, including myself, that Logan is taking USATF in the right direction, but it is too early to judge how great of a leader he will be.
Two areas of importance where Logan still needs to improve greatly are membership growth and sponsorship growth. In this time of economic hardship it will be hard for the company to create a larger budget, but it is possible and there are many ways to approach this. I believe Logan will make the right moves, but that's mostly because I am an optimist.
Logan needs to prove himself to the entire track and field community, take a strong approach on everything he does and move our sport's business model into the 21st century. 2009 is a year of opportunity for track and field in the United States. It's time to get to work.
