Thanksgiving Weekend Racing Results

Some big results took place this past weekend, as a few of the top runners in the country took part in Thanksgiving races. The most notable performance was the professional debut of California's Scott Bauhs. Bauhs won the Synaptics Elite Athlete 5k in San Jose, California, running away from a tough field to win in a U.S. leading 13:37 (top American road 5k of the year). Bauhs' time also leaves him only three seconds off the top time in the world this year according to David Monti of Race Results Weekly.

Bauhs also stated this weekend that he has yet to sign with a shoe company, although he is in talks with a few of them. It's interesting that the Chico State standout decided to turn professional without having a shoe sponsor there waiting to sign him to a respectable contract. I understand these things take time, but when athletes like Allyson Felix, Alan Webb and Shalane Flanagan all went pro they all had a shoe company or two knocking on their door.

The other big race was the Manchester Road Race, a 4.748 mile race, which brought together athletes from many nationalities. Irishman Martin Fagan, who ran at Providence College, won the race in 21:41, six seconds ahead of Kenyan Haron Lagat. Brian Olinger was the top American finisher in third with a time of 21:49, while Andrew Carlson placed fourth in 21:59. Overall, five Americans finished in the top five.
