Brian Sell to Retire After NYC Marathon

In a Runner's World interview with Kevin Hanson released today, Hanson talked mostly about the wonderful performance by Hansons-Brooks runner Desiree Davila at the IAAF World Marathon Championships. However, right at the end of the interview, Hanson was asked about Brian Sell's preparation for the New York City Marathon this November. Here is what Hanson had to say:

Runner's World: Brian Sell, we know, is coming to the ING New York City Marathon on November 1. Has he begun his build-up yet?

KH: He's started his training. I know he 's said it a lot, but this will be Brian's swan song. What's happened more than anything is he's been one of those guys it's been hard for because he had being an Olympian as the most important thing - it was not making a lot of money in the sport, it was not doing this, it was not doing that, it was becoming an Olympian. And once the goal is achieved, it's sometimes hard to refocus. And for him, that's been very very difficult. I'm not sure he's still in it mentally. I'm not sure he hasn't checked out. And I don't really mean that as a criticism. I don't really blame him. But one of the things for him is that he's never really run the New York City Marathon, and that was definitely one of the things he wanted to do before he was done. And I'm 95 percent sure this will be it for him.
